Sheriff’s Deputies Track Down Fleeing Suspect

BREVARD COUNTY • MERRITT ISLAND, FLORIDA – Brevard County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 22-year-old John Fredrick Meadows of Merritt Island yesterday for Resisting without Violence, Aggravated Fleeing or Attempting to Elude a Law Enforcement Officer, Possession of a Firearm in Commission of a Felony and Leaving the Scene of an Accident with Property Damage.

According to the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office, yesterday at approximately 1:30 p.m. at the intersection of North Tropical Trail and Mytrice Avenue in Merritt Island, Deputy Daniel Hammond conducted a traffic stop of a white Lexus, driven by Meadows, for a traffic violation.
During the traffic stop, and after obtaining identification of the driver, Deputy Hammond observed a handgun in the vehicle and then Meadows fled from the traffic stop, driving in a reckless manner and eventually crashed. Meadows was then seen running from the accident scene carrying a handgun.

The investigation led deputies to 700 North Courtenay Parkway, Unit 430 where deputies located and arrested Meadows without incident. Subsequent to Meadows’ arrest, two handguns were seized from Meadows’ apartment.
Meadows is currently being held at the Brevard County Jail Complex on a No Bond status.
