BREVARD COUNTY • COCOA – Eastern Florida State College head golf coach Jamie Howell is heading into the Titans fall season with a definite plan.

“We will devote much more time to the short game and putting earlier this coming season,” said Howell who has taken the Titans to the NJCAA Division I National Championship Tournament for all 11 of his seasons.

“I will let the expectations take care of themself as we progress into the season.”

Eastern Florida finished fifth at the nationals in May after winning the NJCAA District 4 title in April.

“We went into nationals with good preparation and a good vibe then started out flat and finished strong,” Howell said. “We were a top-5 team all year with the potential and talent to compete for a national title. We just did not get the job done at nationals.”

Back are rising sophomores Arthur Leonard and Kyle Benson, both of whom competed at nationals, and are being counted on along with classmates Nicholas Maynard and Brett Maue, to provide experience and leadership to an otherwise young team.

Also on the fall roster are freshmen Dalton Bartlett of Cocoa, FL and Space Coast Jr./Sr. High; Lorenzo Bolivar of Orlando, FL and Timber Creek High; Drew Cooke of Homosassa, FL and Lecanto High School and Brad Gray of Logansport, IN and Lewis Cass Jr./Sr. High.

EFSC opens its fall schedule with the Sept. 9-10 Wallace State Fall Invitational in Cullman, AL. It then competes in the Sept. 22-23 Webber Warrior Fall Invitational, Lake Wales, FL; the Oct. 21-22 Darton Fall Invitational in Albany, GA, that doubles as the District 4 preview; the Oct. 28-29: Rollins College Tar Invitational in Winter Park; the Nov. 1-3: Collegiate Players Cup Ryder Cup-style match-up with Melbourne’s Florida Tech and finishes with the Nov. 11-12 Central Alabama Fall Invitational, Alexander City, AL.

Central Alabama is the defending national champion.
