Today’s Kickoff Classic Matchups
• BAYSIDE @ ASTRONAUT, 7 p.m. Kickoff
Bayside, currently ranked No. 2 in the county, starts the season with a bunch of D1 talent.
Bayside Coach Jerrod Ackely has brought a disciplined mentality to Bayside. Four players, including two starters, have been dismissed from the team in the last two weeks. Coach Ackely has sent notice to the team that all players regardless of position will be held accountable to the standard set forth by the Football program. Bayside still has D1 talent led by Greg Miclisse (Sr.), a nationally rated LB with over 20 college offers.
The defense will also feature the No. 2 rated defensive lineman in the county, Torrell Onee (Sr.), a DL who had a great spring. Lucious McKay(Sr., ATH) has all the tools to light up the scoreboard in this game but will need help from his offensive line in stopping J.T. Hassell (Sr., DE/LB) of Astronaut. Astronaut will showcase speedy running back Brandon Wright (Sr.) and ATH Quentez Keels (Sr.)
PREDICTION: Bayside 25, Astronaut 18
• ROCKLEDGE @ EAU GALLIE, 7 p.m. Kickoff
Rockledge returns 12 starters lead by Traven Phillips (RB) and Justin Weaver (Jr., RB) on offense. The Raiders look like they are returning to the power running game that won back-to-back state championships in 2001 and 2002.
The defense will be anchored by Traybion Smith (Jr., LB), Deanthony Henderson (Sr., DL),Trayvon Cox (Sr., SS) and Juandarius Dukes (Jr., DB). Eau Gallie will use an experienced line to create running lanes for Torrance Brown (Sr., QB) and one of the best backs in the county, Antoine Rutledge (Sr. RB).
PREDICTION: Rockledge 27, Eau Gallie 13
GAINESVILLE @ HERITAGE, 7 p.m. kickoff
Heritage returns 15 starters from a 10-2 team in 2012. It won’t be a surprise if they make a deep playoff run as this team is loaded at every position.
This could be a breakout year for Heritage as they take on nationally-ranked No. 91 Gainesville, FL. Gainesville is led by Tony James (Sr., RB) on offense and Juan Jenkins on defense (Sr., LB).
In order for Heritage to pull the upset that must rely on the arm and feet of highly rated Clinton Moxam (Sr. QB) and (So. RB) Josh Gaines who rushed for over a 1,000 yards last season as a Freshman. Dedric Witherspoon will lead the secondary.
PREDICTION: UPSET ALERT – Heritage 20, Gainesville 17

Judson has the luxury of not having to do it all his first year as he is surrounded by D1 talent. Jamel Jackson (South Alabama, Sr., DB), Freddy Booth Lloyd (16 offers, Sr.,DL), Chauncey Gardner (Miami, So., ATH), Jamel Dean (Multiple Offers, Jr., ATH) and James Folston (son of NFL player James Folston, Sr.) lead a fast and swarming defense. Lorenzo Pratt (Sr., RB) will take the bulk of carries as he becomes the featured back now that All-American, Tarean Folston is playing for Notre Dame.
Gonzaga, will com into the game after a 23-7 upset loss in a scrimmage recently against Archbishop Carroll. However, Gonzaga will look to unleash Ohio commit Robbie Walker (Sr., ATH) and Georgia Tech commit Miles Taylor (Jr., ATH).
