BREVARD COUNTY • PORT CANAVERAL, FLORIDA – Fred and Sandra Getter (above center) stopped by the Canaveral Fire Rescue Station 54 this week in Port Canaveral to personally thank Corporal Mike Veina (right) and Capt Tracy Braley (far left), two of the responders who assisted Fred when he was involved in a near-fatal motorcycle accident on in March.

Thanks to their quick actions of Station 54, and the skill of Dr. Peter Pappas, a surgeon at Health First, Fred Getter’s life was saved.

Dr. Pappas is a Trauma Surgeon with the Trauma Center at Holmes Regional Medical Center. Originally from Orlando, Dr. Pappas went to medical school and General Surgery residency at the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami.

He completed his fellowship in Surgical Critical Care and Trauma at Orlando Regional Medical Center. Dr. Pappas is board certified in General Surgery and Surgical Critical Care and has an active interest in research, education and injury prevention.
