Upon arrival, Deputies located a victim who had been shot and were informed that the suspect had fled from the area on foot.

Information was received that the suspect fled north towards a wooded area near Crockett Boulevard. A search was conducted, which resulted in Sergeant Mike Green, his partner K-9 Bosco and Corporal Mark Rosenfeld locating and arresting 23-year-old Ray Ray Long, who was attempting to conceal himself within the densely wooded area. Long was still armed with the handgun at the time of his arrest.

Long has an extensive criminal history related to drug, burglary and firearm charges.

Long was charged with the Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon, Carrying a Concealed Firearm and Resisting Arrest. Long is currently being held at the Brevard County Jail Complex under a No Bond status.

Long was not charged with the shooting due to the victim declining to seek prosecution, according to the Sheriff’s Office. The victim was transported to Cape Canaveral Emergency Room where he received medical treatment and was released.

“I am so proud of our incredible team,” said Sheriff Wayne Ivey.  “These deputies chased an armed violent felon into a wooded area to capture and ensure the suspect goes exactly where he belongs – jail.”
