BCSO Apprehends Burglary Suspect In Indian River

BREVARD COUNTY • MERRITT ISLAND, FLORIDA – A fleeing residential burglary suspect jumped into the Indian River to escape Brevard County Sheriff’s Deputies around 3 p.m. today, according to the Sheriff’s Department.
The Aviation and Marine Units combined to capture Patrick Russell Brennan, 32, who was hauled out of the water off Snug Harbor Drive near North Tropical Trail in Merritt Island.
According to the Brevard County Sheriff’s Department, at approximately 3 p.m. today, members of the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office responded to a residential burglary in progress in the 400 block of Snug Harbor, Merritt Island.
Upon arrival, Deputies attempted to make contact with the suspect who had fled the scene on foot and jumped into the Indian River in an attempt to avoid arrest. The Sheriff’s Office Aviation and Marine Units, in coordination with responding Deputies, subsequently arrested Brennan, of Merritt Island, for Armed Burglary and Resisting Arrest.

Brennan was armed with a knife at the time of his arrest. He was transported to the Brevard County Jail Complex on a No Bond status.
“I am very proud of the citizen who notified law enforcement of the suspicious incident and Deputies Musante and Genova who responded to the call along with Corporal Sarivola, Aviation Chief Coppola, Aviation Deputy Harris and Ag-Marine Deputy Barton,” said Sheriff Wayne Ivey.
“By working together as a team and in partnership with our citizens they were able to remove a violent offender from our streets. This is a perfect example that it takes a community to protect a community.”
