Interim Chief John Lau Named Top Cop In Titusville

BREVARD COUNTY • TITUSVILLE, FLORIDA – City Manager Mark Ryan has announced the appointment of John Lau as the Chief of Police for the City of Titusville effective September 16, 2013.

Lau served as the department’s Interim Chief since August of 2012 after the retirement of Chief Tony Bollinger.

“Not only did I recognize his longstanding career in Titusville, but the leadership he has shown the department and the community throughout his career,” said City Manager Mark Ryan, who announced the appointment lst Monday.

“Chief Lau is well respected within the law enforcement community and I expect great achievements for the department under his leadership.”

Chief Lau, who grew up in Long Island, New York, is a 21-year veteran of the Titusville Police Department. He started his career in 1992 after graduating from the police academy at then Brevard Community College’s Melbourne Campus.

Lau began his career with the Titusville Police Department in 1992 and after serving several years in Patrol, was promoted to Detective and assigned to the Criminal Investigations Division. He was recognized the Titusville Police Department’s Officer of the Year in 1996, and then as the Brevard County’s 1996 Detective of the Year.

In 1997, he was promoted to Sergeant and served as a supervisor for more than seven years in both the Uniformed Patrol and the Investigations Divisions. Lau was awarded the department’s Supervisor of the Year Award in 2003 and was promoted to the rank of Commander in 2004. He was named Assistant Chief in 2007.

Lau earned a Bachelor’s degree in Organizational Management from Warner Southern University and a Masters Degree in Criminal Justice from the University of Central Florida.

In 2005 he graduated from the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s National Academy, and in 2012, graduated from the FBI’s Law Enforcement Executive Development program.

Chief Lau named the filling of several police officer vacancies in the department as one of his first priorities as Chief.

“When we are fully staffed, we can be far more effective with proactive approaches like reinstating our crime suppression unit,” said Chief Lau.

“We have the most committed men and women in law enforcement right here in Titusville, and I am very excited about our department’s future.”
