EFSC Womens Soccer Headed to Postseason

efsc earns third postseason berth
BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA — Eastern Florida State’s women’s soccer team wraps up its fourth regular season as a program today with its fourth winning record and its third postseason berth.
Eastern Florida, 9-2-1, visits NJCAA Region 8 foe Broward College, which it has defeated twice this season. First kick is at 5 p.m. on Broward’s Pembroke Pines campus.
Eastern Florida also defeated Region 8 foe Polk State College three times in earning its way into the NJCAA postseason. The Titans travel to Mississippi on Nov. 9 to play a foe yet to be determined for the right to advance to the NJCAA Division I Women’s National Championship Tournament for the second straight year. The Titans lost in the tournament final last season.
The national tournament, comprised of 12 teams, will be contested Nov. 18-23 on the Melbourne Campus.
Eastern Florida is 41-10-3 in four seasons under head coach Jeff Carr and is ranked 11th nationally by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.
POTENT OFFENSE, STOUT DEFENSE
It has combined a potent offense with a stout defense this season, ranking second nationally in shots per game, 26.3, fifth in shots with 316 and eighth in shots on goal with 223. The Titans are 39th in goals scored with 39.
Sophomore Nikki Mitchell leads the Titans in goals with 10. Classmate Jenci Villaverde has nine. Sophomore Amanda Lodge has four goals and a team-leading six assists.
Defensively sophomore goalkeeper Katelyn Kern, who has split time with classmate Amy Clason-Messina, ranks first nationally in goals against average at 0.16 and is tied for first in goals allowed with one. She has played 549 minutes in nine games, five as a starter. She has 12 saves.
Eastern Florida has conceded one goal in its last six games, all victories. It has allowed nine goals all season.
The Broward game will be the regular-season finale for 16 Eastern Florida sophomores: Mitchell, Villaverde, Lodge, Kern, Clason-Messina, Devin McAllister, Jess Fassnidge, Sue Kumaning, Jade Rhodes, Katlyn Bales, Mariah Robbins, Sarah Compton, Kelsey Smith, Heather Williams, Melissa Williams and Kimmie Tierney.
