Fatal Accident on I-95 near SR 46

TRAFFIC DIVERTED OFF I-95 SB ONTO CR-5A

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA — Florida Highway Patrol reports a fatality involved with a multi-vehicle accident on I-95 at Mile Marker 223, south of SR 46.

According to FHP officer Kim Montes, the fatal crash involved a motorcycle and a semi.  The Motorcyclist is deceased and as of 10:11 a.m., southbound lanes remain blocked.

UPDATE: According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the motorcyclist killed in the accident is Thelbert Harper, 65, of New Smyrna. Therber was travelling southbound on I-95 in the inside line. FHP’s preliminary investigation suggests that Harper’s motorcycle may have had a mechanical issue and become disabled. Therber attempted to push his motorcycle out of the travel lanes. The front of a semi truck struck Therber’s motorcycle in the outside lane and ran over Therber. The crash remains under investigation.
