Florida Tech Cross Country Finishes Eighth at FSU Invitational

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA — Florida Tech placed eighth out of 11 college teams with 248 points at the Florida State University Invitational Friday evening at Apalachee Regional Park.

The Panthers’ average time was 21:06.30 on the 5K course. Tampa won the race among NCAA Division II schools with 40 points and an average time of 18:38.42.

Inka Homeyer kept up her practice of being the first Panther to cross the finish line, coming in ninth among NCAA Division II runners at 18:42.23. Ellyn Willse ran her best time for the 2013 season at 20:17.96 for 44th place overall.Shannon Hyland also recorded a season-best time with 22:13.77.

Alabama-Huntsville’s Vicky Winslow was the first Division II runner to place at 17:56.02. Flagler’s Sara Mund was the second at 18:10.07, and Tampa’s Chantell Blundell rounded out the top three at 18:20.71.

The Panthers will race next at the Sunshine State Conference Championship, hosted by Saint Leo on Oct. 26.
