Prisco, Vega Florida Tech Student-Athletes of the Week

VEGA LEADS PANTHERS TO FIRST CONFERENCE WIN

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Florida Tech freshman women’s soccer player Karlyn Prisco and senior football player Bobby Vega were awarded this week’s Panther Student-Athletes of the Week honor for the period of Oct. 14-20.

Prisco, a goalkeeper from Rockledge, Fla., did not surrender a goal in two matches last week, totaling 146 minutes and 43 seconds of playing time.

She subbed in for Julia Kantor in the second half of FIT’s match against then No. 14 Armstrong Atlantic last Tuesday, making two saves en route to a 2-0 win.

FIRST CAREER SHUTOUT

The pre-med biology major then posted her first career shutout in a 0-0 tie at Sunshine State Conference leading Barry last Saturday. She turned away four shots to help the Panthers earn a crucial point in the conference standings.

Vega, a quarterback from Miami, Fla., guided FIT to a 28-24 come-from-behind win over Shorter for the program’s first Gulf South Conference victory on Saturday.

He threw for nearly 200 yards and three touchdowns without an interception. Two of his touchdown passes came when the Panthers scored three straight times in just over nine minutes of the fourth quarter.

Heading into the quarter, they trailed 24-7.

Prisco and the women’s soccer team travel to West Palm Beach on Wednesday to take on Palm Beach Atlantic at 4 p.m. ET. Vega and the football team host Warner in the Panthers’ first Homecoming Game on Saturday at 1 p.m. ET at Palm Bay High School’s Pirate Stadium.
