BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA — Soccer defenders Heather Williams and Ivan Magalhaes are the Eastern Florida State College Student-Athletes of the Month for September.
Williams, a sophomore from South Dade High School in Homestead, Fla., anchors an Eastern Florida women’s soccer defense that has not allowed a goal in the Titans last four games – all victories – and has conceded only two goals in its last six games.
Williams also had the assist – on a corner kick – on the winning goal with 40 seconds remaining in the 1-0 double overtime against Polk State College on Monday. Magalhaes, a freshman from Joao XXIII School in Sao Paolo, Brazil, has played every minute of the Eastern Florida men’s soccer team’s eight games, six of them victories in September en route to a 7-1 record.
Magalhaes also has scored two goals. The women’s and men’s team are nationally ranked by both the NJCAA and the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA), the men seventh by the NSCAA and eighth by the NJCAA and the women 11th by the NJCAA and the NSCAA.
