GAME CAPSULES & PREDICTIONS

(1) Estero @ Heritage (6A Regional Quarter-finals)

This game will feature the most explosive backfield in the state of Florida. Heritage’s backfield of Josh Gaines, Josh Harden, Vic Figueroa and Dedric Witherspoon will dominate this game just as they have every team they have faced this season. The Heritage defense has only given up 67 points this season. Look for Josh Gaines to go over 1,000 yards on the season, and an early running clock in this contest. Moving forward, the Panthers will be in a dogfight in every playoff game.

Prediction: Heritage 50, Estero 0

Key Players for Heritage: Clinton Moxam (Sr. QB), Josh Gaines (So. RB), Dedric Witherspoon (Sr. ATH), Josh Harden(So. RB)

Key Players for Estero: Cody Long (Jr. QB), Nick Nataro (Sr. TE)

(2)LeBelle @ Cocoa (4A Regional Semi-finals)

Cocoa has been hit by the injury bug on defense but have the depth to pick up the slack. The defense has been living in their opponent’s backfield this season with Tavares Parks (11sacks), Lane Burnett (10 sacks), Quincy Pratt (7 sacks) and Freddie Booth-Lloyd (6 sacks). Look for a heavy dose of Lor’renzo Pratt and the mammoth offensive line to rush for over 200 yards. Pratt has scored 24 TDs this season. LaBelle gets an early score but Cocoa shuts down running back Danny Robinson in a blowout.

Prediction: Cocoa 55, LaBelle 7

Key Players for Cocoa: Freddie Booth-Lloyd (Sr.  DT, Tulane Commit), James Folston (Sr. ILB, Purdue, Minnesota offers), Chauncey Gardner (So. DB, Miami Commit), Jamel Jackson (Sr. DB, Temple Commit), Lane Burnett (Sr. DL), Tavares Parks (Sr. DL), Lor’renzo Pratt (Sr. RB), Bruce Judson (Fr. QB)

Key Players for Labelle: Danny Robinson (Sr. RB)

(3) Merritt Island Advanced to 5A Regional Semi-finals

Key Players: Ty Schwab (Sr. LB, Boston College Commit), Shaq Jones (Sr. ATH, South Alabama Commit), Nick Smith (Sr. QB), Johnny Batch (Sr. DB), P.J Kellem (Sr. DB), John Batch (Sr. ATH)

(4) Frostproof @ MCC (3A Regional Semi-finals)

Brandon Ziarno has a QBR of 127, threw for 2,026 yards 32 TDs and completed 63 percent of his passes. Ziarno leads an explosive offense that spreads the ball to his receiving core of Erdman, Perlman and Taylor-Laird. Look for this game to be closer than most think as FIU commit Jarviel Hart (Sr.WR/DB) will keep Frostproof in the game.

Prediction: MCC 35, Frostproof 21

Key Players MCC: Max Erdman (Jr. WR), Austin Perlman (Jr. WR), Brandon Ziarno (Jr. QB), Alec LeFlore (Sr.RB), Chase Jackson-Harris (So. RB), Kyle Taylor-Laird (Jr. WR)

Key Player Frostproof: FIU commit Jarviel Hart(Sr. WR/DB)

(5) Charlotte @ Melbourne  (7A Regional Quarter-finals)

Melbourne will lean on its running game and strong defense in what should be a close game. Melbourne’s offensive line must dominate to open lanes for a stable of running backs. The X-factor in this game could be Dwane Robinson as Melbourne takes some shots down field. Look for a very exciting close game in this one with Melbourne pulling away late.

Prediction: Melbourne 34, Charlotte 23

Key Players Melbourne: Dwane Robinson (Sr. QB), Bryson Hill (Sr. RB), Chris Singh (So. RB)

Key Players Charlotte: Dwight Reynolds(Sr. WR), Amari Washington (Sr. RB), Dwayne Reynolds (Sr. WR)

(6) Palm Bay @ Bishop Moore (5A Regional Quarter-finals)

Palm Bay will win this one as their defense will get take-aways and leave the offense with scoring  opportunities. Coach Burke moving Reggie Benjamin to LB was a brilliant move. Benjamin has been a great lift to the defense with 96 tackles to go along with tackling machine Twonnie Pollard’s 116 tackles. Look for that strong O-line to create running lanes for Sekai Lindsay who is on pace for 1,500 yards this season. Palm Bay gashes Bishop Moore on their way to victory and rematch with Merritt Island.

Prediction: Palm Bay 30, Bishop Moore 17

Key Players for Palm Bay: Stephon Williams (Jr. LB), Alex Jasmin (Sr. DB), Sekai Lindsay (Jr. RB), Reggie Benjamin (Sr. LB/RB), Twonnie Pollard (So.LB)

(8) Bayside @ Naples (6A Regional Quarter-finals)

Bayside faces a tough test in the first round as they travel to play Naples. The Naples’ two-headed monsters in the backfield of Max Joseph and and Carlin Fils-Aime have rushed for 1,636 and 27 touchdowns. Bayside will need to slow them down to have a chance in this one, but must do it without star LB Greg Miclisse. Look for Naples to be just to much for the Bears as they defeat Bayside.

Prediction: Naples 38, Bayside 27

Key Players for Bayside: William Harrell (Sr. RB), Lucious McKay (Sr. ATH)

Key Players for Naples: Max Joseph (Jr. RB), Brian Donnelly (Sr. LB), Carlin Fils-Aime (So. RB)

(7) Eau Gallie @ Port Charlotte (7A Regional Quarter-finals)

Eau Gallie has a tough first round opponent in Port Charlotte. Eau Gallie can pull the upset in this one if they can shut the down the Pirates running game. Look for Port Charlotte to bounce back from its upset loss last week to Lakewood Ranch.

Prediction: Port Charlotte 27,  Eau Gallie 24

Key Players Eau Gallie: Torrance Brown (Sr. QB), Antoine Rutledge (Sr. ATH)
