Basketball sweeps awards for first time this season

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Florida Tech basketball players Chris Carter and Tiesha Flagler were named this week’s Panther Student-Athletes of the Week on Monday.

Following the game, the junior business administration major was named to the all-tournament team. Carter began the week with a 16-point, nine-assist performance in the Panthers’ 87-79 victory over Puerto Rico-Mayaguez on Nov. 25. For the week, the Port St. Lucie, Fla. native averaged 20.3 points, 6.7 assists, three steals and three rebounds per game. With the team’s two wins last week, FIT improved to 7-1 overall.

Flagler recorded her first double-double of her two-year Panther career in FIT’s first game of the Nova Southeastern Thanksgiving Classic on Nov. 29. Against Flagler College, she scored 16 points and corralled 11 rebounds in 16 minutes of play.

The following day, she recorded another double-double in the 83-81 win over Pitt-Johnstown. The Hastings, Fla. native matched her career-high of 16 points and for the second consecutive day set a new high for rebounds with 15. Flagler and the Panthers are now 6-3 on the season.

The Panther women will play at Palm Beach Atlantic on Tuesday at 5 p.m. Live video and stats will be available at FloridaTechSports.com. The women will then return to the Clemente Center to join the men in hosting their Sunshine State Conference opener against Lynn on Saturday.
