EFSC Post-season Soccer Honors Announced

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA — Eastern Florida State College’s women’s and inaugural men’s soccer teams harvested a bushel full of postseason honors including NJCAA Division I first-team All-America honors for men’s defender and freshman Ivan Magalhaes and National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) first-team All-America honors for women’s defender and sophomore Heather Williams.

Eastern Florida’s men’s and women’s teams both competed in their respective national tournaments this fall, the women for the second straight season. Both were eliminated in the first round. The men finished the season 14-1-3 and the women 12-3-1.

The first-team NSCAA All-America honor was the second consecutive for Williams who in 2012 was the only freshman in the nation honored with the designation. The Homestead, FL resident also was a 2013 NJCAA Division I second-team All-America selection.

The Eastern Florida women’s defense was solid all season, posting nine shutouts including a streak of five straight. The Titans allowed 13 goals in 16 games for goals against average of 0.84, good for 20th nationally.

The Titans men allowed 19 goals in 18 games for goals against average of 1.03, good for 18th in the nation.

Offensively the men scored 62 goals good for 23rd nationally. The women scored 45 goals, good for 35th nationally.

Women’s freshman midfielder Jamie Perriello of Boca Raton, FL was a second-team NSCAA and NJCAA Division I All-America selection.

Men’s freshman defender Keenan King of Boynton Beach, FL, was a second team NSCAA All-America selection while classmate forward Jordan Muir of Bonnyton, Scotland, was a third-team NJCAA Division I All-America pick.

Magalhaes, of Sao Paulo, Brazil and Muir were NSCAA first-team All-South Region picks while King was a second-team All-South Region pick.

Williams, Perriello, and sophomores Amanda Lodge of Fleming Island, FL and Jenci Villaverde of Palm Bay, FL were all NSCAA Women’s All-South Region first-team honorees.

Perriello earlier was named NJCAA Division I Region 8 Most Valuable Player. She was one of eight 2013 Titans honored including first-team selections Williams; Villaverde; Lodge; sophomore forward Nikki Mitchell of Toronto, Canada; and sophomore defender Jade Rhodes of Bournemouth, England.

Named to the second team were sophomores and midfielders Sue Kumaning of London, England and Kelsey Smith of Port St. Lucie, FL.

Eastern Florida men’s head coach Oliver Twelvetrees was named NJCAA Southeast District Coach of the Year while assistant Josh Schirmer was named the NSCAA Junior College South Region Assistant Coach of the Year.

Also, women’s head coach Jeff Carr was named the NJCAA Region 8 and District H coach of the year.
