BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Women’s basketball player Rachelle “Rocky” Aupont and men’s basketball players Mike Kirkland and Torrance Rowe are the Eastern Florida State College female and male student-athletes of the week respectively for the week ending Dec. 8.

Rachelle “Rocky” Aupont

Aupont, a 5-foot, 9-inch freshman from Orlando, Fla. and Edgewater High, led Eastern Florida with 18 points on 7-for-12 from the floor, grabbed eight rebounds and had two assists in an 85- 77 loss to nationally ranked Northwest Florida State College on Friday.

Aupont followed up with 18 points and nine rebounds in Saturday’s 91-79 loss to Pensacola Community College.

“Rocky has worked really hard and it showed this past weekend against tough competition,” said Eastern Florida head coach Jim Grimes.

“She is very versatile and we are certainly blessed to have her in the program.”

Mike Kirkland, a 6-7 sophomore forward from Ocala, Fla. and West Port High, and Rowe, a 5-11 guard from Atlanta, GA and Central Park Christian, both played pivotal roles in Eastern Florida winning three games last week.

Mike Kirkland

Kirkland scored a team-high 21 points and grabbed eight rebounds as Eastern Florida defeated host State College of Florida Manatee-Sarasota 87-83 on Tuesday.

Rowe scored a team-high 35 points as Eastern Florida defeated visiting Cape Fear Community College 93-71 on Friday.

Torrance Rowe

Kirkland scored eight points and pulled down 15 rebounds as Eastern Florida dispatched visiting Florida State College Jacksonville 88-73.

“I am really excited for both Mike and Torrance for being named Athletes of the Week,” said Eastern Florida head coach Jeremy Shulman.

“Torrance was unbelievable against Cape Fear with 35 points. He is a talented, talented kid. And Mike has just been unbelievable all year for us, and has turned into a rebounding machine. His 15-rebound effort against FSC-Jacksonville was special.”
