BREVARD COUNTY • PALM BAY, FLORIDA — Eight Palm Bay Fire-Rescue firefighter SWAT-Medics are in the midst of six months of training and education to become certified auxiliary police officers.

Their training began in September and is ongoing for a period of six months.
This training includes legal issues, patrol procedures, investigations, emergency vehicle operations, firearms, defensive tactics, taser, use of force, officer safety and other subject matter that is required to become certified to serve in law enforcement.
Once concluded these firefighter SWAT-medics will be able to perform the duties of a certified law enforcement officer provided a sworn full-time law enforcement officer is present.
The objective of the firefighter SWAT-medic program is to enhance the first-responder’s ability to safely render aid in an active critical incident.
