Acevedo, Carter Are Panther Student-Athletes of the Week

BOTH TEAMS RETURN TO ACTION TODAY

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA — Florida Tech senior women’s basketball player Rita Acevedo and junior men’s basketball player Chris Carter were selected Panther Student-Athletes of the Week for the period of Dec. 16-22 on Monday.

Acevedo, a 5-foot, 7-inch guard from Bayamon, Puerto Rico, led the Panthers to the CarMax Holiday Tournament Championship with her consistency in the team’s two wins.

Acevedo, a 5-foot, 7-inch guard from Bayamon, Puerto Rico, led the Panthers to the CarMax Holiday Tournament Championship with her consistency in the team’s two wins.

She averaged 6.5 points, 6.5 rebounds, six assists, 2.5 steals and had one block enroute to winning the tournament’s Most Outstanding Player award.

Carter, a 6-foot, 5-inch guard from Port St. Lucie, Fla., guided the men to a 3-0 week, which included victories over Fisher College on Tuesday, and North Greenville and LeMoyne-Owen in FIT’s Holiday Classic.

He averaged 25 points, 8.3 assists, four rebounds and two steals. Against North Greenville, he recorded his fifth double-double of the season with 21 points and 10 rebounds.

Carter has now reached double figures in points in all 12 of FIT’s games this season and has scored over 20 points in eight games. On Monday, he was chosen SSC Men’s Basketball Player of the Week, presented by VALIC.

BOTH TEAMS RETURN TO ACTION TODAY

Both basketball teams return to action Jan. 4 when they travel to Saint Leo to resume Sunshine State Conference play. The women’s game will tip-off at 2 p.m. and the men will follow at 4 p.m.

With FIT’s basketball and swimming teams off this week, the next Panther Student-Athletes of the Week will be announced Monday, Jan. 6.
