Brevard Symphony Youth Orchestra Offers Summer Strings Workshop

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA — The Brevard Symphony Youth Orchestra (BSYO) is offering its annual Summer Strings Camp from June 9-13 at Suntree United Methodist Church, located at 7400 N. Wickham Road in Melbourne.

The camp is open to students ages 6-18, regardless of BSYO annual participation, and will be grouped based on their musical abilities. Abilities range from all-state and all-county participants, to beginning orchestra students who have completed a Level 1 Suzuki book and are able to read music.

The camp will feature Carey Moorman, musician with the Brevard Symphony Orchestra, Orlando Philharmonic and String teacher at Satellite High School; Dr. Siliman, assistant principal cellist of the Brevard Symphony and orchestra director/ string teacher for the Brevard County School District for 21 years; and Paul Jackson, Orchestra Director at Astronaut High School and Madison Middle School in Titusville.

Other instructors to be announced at a later date.

BSYO SEEKS COVER ART FOR PROGRAM

The Brevard Symphony Youth Orchestra is seeking music-related artwork to become the cover of its 2014-2015 season program.

The Brevard Symphony Youth Orchestra (BSYO) is seeking music-related artwork to become the cover of its 2014-2015 season program. This program will be distributed at our concerts to audiences of approximately 2,500 people and will be reproduced for other BSYO materials such as posters, brochures and compact disc covers. The winning artist will be featured with a photo and biography in the BSYO’s 2014-2015 season program and receive a certificate of achievement.

The winning artist and art teacher will also be recognized on-stage during a BSYO concert and receive a gift prize.

The winning artwork will be professionally framed and presented to the winner at that time. All entries will be featured in a “gallery” at a BSYO concert, to which each applicant will receive free tickets to attend.

BYSO-LOGO-180-1Contestants must be students in 1st through 12th grade in public schools, private schools or home school. Individuals may submit only one entry for consideration.
