BREVARD COUNTY • PORT CANAVERAL, FLORIDA – Disney Cruise Line crew member, Ahmed Sofyan of Jakarta, Indonesia, has been arrested and charged with two counts of lewd or lascivious molestation, and one count of false imprisonment of a 13 year-old girl.
According to authorities, the Canaveral Port Authority police were called by Disney Cruise Line just after 8 a.m. Thursday morning to respond to a suspected molestation that occurred aboard the Disney Dream cruise ship while it was docked in Port Canaveral.
The Disney Dream arrived in port earlier in Thursday morning ending a 4-night Bahamian cruise. The ship departed Thursday afternoon for a three-day cruise to the Bahamas. Disney Cruise Line officials notified law enforcement, including the Port Canaveral Police, the FBI and the Coast Guard.
“We have no tolerance whatsoever for the behavior alleged in this incident,” said Karl Holz, President of Disney Cruise Line. “We are sorry that anything of this nature could have occurred on one of our ships. We place enormous value on the trust our guests have in us, and nothing is more important to us than the safety and security of each and every one of our guests.”
Following an investigation, Sofyan, 36, was arrested and transported to the Brevard County jail.
According to DisneyCruiselineBlog.com Sofyan has also been terminated as an employee of Disney Cruise Line and will appear before a judge today.
