Eastern Florida Blanks Broward 1-0 to Even Conference Record
Eastern Florida’s baseball team evened its Florida College System Activities Association Southern Conference record at 9-9 on Saturday as it blanked Broward College 1-0 in Davie.
The victory gave Eastern Florida some separation from Palm Beach State (8-10), Indian River State (8-11) and Broward (8-12) in the race for a top-two finish in conference, which carries with it an automatic bid to the state tournament.
Miami Dade led the conference at 13-4 heading into Saturday.
Right-hander Jesse Schullstrom went six innings for Eastern Florida striking out six batters. John Piriz went one inning and closer Chayce Hubbard two innings with four strikeouts.
Broward was limited to four hits while Eastern Florida collected 11. The game-winning run batted in went to Angel Soto.
Eastern Florida’s Tennis Season Ends at State Tournament
Eastern Florida’s run in its first women’s tennis Florida College System Activities Association state tournament ended on Saturday as it finished with six points. The Titans season is over.
Isabella Sella won the back draw or relegation final at No. 1 singles defeating Tarsha DeSousa of Hillsborough Community College 6-2, 6-0 and Laura Gorski won the back draw final at No. 6 singles by default.
Also, Sella and Kaila Cochran won the back draw doubles final 8-6 over Hillsborough Community College.
Cochran lost the No. 3 singles back draw semifinal 6-2, 6-2 to Anri Ureno of St. Petersburg College while Hope Fellows lost in the No. 4 back draw final 6-3, 6-1 to Laura Lapp of State College of Florida Manatee-Sarasota.
Erica Nielsen lost 6-0, 6-0 to Samantha Powell of Florida State College Jacksonville in the No. 5 singles back draw final.
