Man Found Floating In Cocoa Beach Surf Dies At Hospital

BREVARD COUNTY • COCOA BECH, FLORIDA – Cocoa Beach police officers responded at about 10:30 a.m. this morning to the beach end of Young Ave in reference to the report of an unconscious swimmer floating in the surf.

The swimmer was identified as Michael Markwell, 51, of Tennessee, according to the Cocoa Beach Police Department.

Officers and members of Cocoa Beach Fire Rescue performed CPR on Markwell, who was then transported to Cape Canaveral Hospital, where he died a short time late.

Police said that no signs of foul play exist, but Markwell’s cause of death is under investigation and undetermined at this time.
