Florida Tech’s Scotty Ward Named to All-SSC Second Team

SECOND CONSECUTIVE SEASON WARD HAS BEEN NAMED ALL-SSC SECOND TEAM

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA — The Sunshine State Conference announced the 2014 All-SSC Baseball Team Monday morning, and Florida Tech junior pitcher Scotty Ward earned conference honors.

Ward was selected to the All-SSC Second Team. It is the second consecutive season that Ward has been named All-SSC Second Team.

Ward, a native of Port Orange, Fla., started 12 games on the mound this season for the Panthers. He recorded a 5-2 record, and led the club with a 1.98 ERA. His 1.98 ERA was the third best in the SSC. Ward pitched 81.2 innings, and earned three complete games.

His complete game shutout of West Georgia back on March 8 earned Ward SSC Pitcher of the Week Honors. He allowed 18 earned runs, walked 14 batters, and struck out 38. Opposing batters hit just .228 against Ward this season.

Sal Giardina of Lynn was selected as the Player of the Year, and Tampa’s Preston Packrall was named the Pitcher of the Year. Dylan Harris of Saint Leo was named Freshman of the Year, and Tampa’s Joe Urso earned SSC Coach of the Year honors.

Voting for the All-SSC Baseball Team was conducted among the league’s head coaches.
