Suspicious Package Prompted Evacuation

UPDATE: May 1, 5 p.m.

BREVARD COUNTY • PALM BAY, FLORIDA – At about 12:30 p.m. today, police and firefighters responded to the Walmart on Malabar Road for a suspicious package.

The store was evacuated and Brevard County Sheriff’s Office Bomb Squad responded to the scene.

The package was later determined to contain what is believed to be an interior mechanism for a copy machine. The scene was cleared with no injuries and no further threat.

The store is currently being evacuated as well as the parking area in front of the store.  The Brevard County Sheriffs Office Bomb Squad is responding.

The package is described as a cardboard box wrapped with tape left just outside the front entrance of the grocery store.  No other information is available. Updates will be provided as warranted.
