NEW YORK,NY — Following a report from the FDA revealing more than 4,800 complaints of pet illnesses and 1,000 dog deaths from Chiense-made jerky treats, PETCO has decided to pull all dog and cat treats from China from all of its chains by the end of 2014.

According to the FDA, investigators have yet to determine why pets are getting ill from the treats. Tests discovered antiviral drug amantadine in some samples of imported chicken jerky treats sold a year or more ago, but the FDA doesn’t think amantadine is the cause of the illness, and it will continue to investigate the products.
