BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – The Brevard County Tourist Development Council recently announced the winners of the 2014 Hospitality & Tourism Awards.

TDC-250-1Eddie James Brown received the Hospitality Specialist of the Year award and Rob Varley, Director of the Space Coast Office of Tourism, and who will retire in October of this year, received the Solomon “Portrait of Excellence.”

These awards celebrate the best of the best among the people and businesses that represent our leading industry in the name of tourism.

Brown has been the cook at the Cocoa Beach International Palms Resort for 45 years, and guests and local residents love his famous fried chicken and macaroni and cheese – and the smile of welcome that always comes with it.

Varley was very surprised when he was awarded the prestigious Portrait of Excellence, as he has a rule that no one who is a current and active member in the TDC would receive this honor.

The tables were turned on him, however, when the TDC decided that since he will retire in October, no one knows where he might be in May of next year and they wanted the tourism community to share the moment.
