Three Share EFSC Student-Athlete of Month Award

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA — Baseball player Christian Diaz, softball player Brooke Formby and golfer Arthur Leonard are Eastern Florida Student-Athletes of the Month for April.

Diaz, a freshman leftfielder from Tampa, FL and George M. Steinbrenner High, was selected as the Florida College System Activities Association Southern Conference Player of the Year.

Diaz finished the regular season leading the Titans in nine offensive categories: hits (63), runs (40, tied for lead), doubles (15), home runs (seven), runs batted in (51), batting average (.368), slugging percentage (.637), total bases (109) and extra base hits (27).

He was ranked 22nd nationally in triples (five); 25th in runs batted in; 48th in doubles; 49th in hits; and 50th in home runs.

He also hit game-winning, walk-off home runs in consecutive games, the season finale against Palm Beach State and the state tournament play-in game against St. Petersburg College.

Formby, a sophomore and left-handed pitcher and leftfielder from Jacksonville, FL and Clay High School, ranked sixth nationally in triples with seven and 34th nationally in hits with 71. As a pitcher she ranked 44th in innings pitched (143).

An All-Southern Conference first-team selection Formby finished as the Eastern Florida leader in triples; hits, 71; total bases 91; batting average, .420; on base percentage, .437; slugging percentage, .538; and tied for most extra base hits, 13.

She also was instrumental in Eastern Florida qualifying for the state tournament for the 10th straight season.

Leonard, a sophomore from Hockley, England and Greensward Academy, won the NJCAA Division I District 4 championship shooting 73-73-73-219 to lead Eastern Florida to a third-place finish, qualifying it for its 12th straight appearance in the NJCAA Division I national tournament.
