The family’s cat, named Tara, rushed the attacking dog and chased it away from the young boy named Jeremy.

The dog made a sudden and  unprovoked attack, sinking his teeth into the boy’s leg, and then trying to pull the boy down the sidewalk with his mouth.

The family cat Tara then came out of nowhere and rammed the dog – chasing the vicious animal from the property.

Bakersfield TV Station ABC23  said that Jeremy, needed only a few stitches and is doing well.

“Tara is my hero,” he said.

The family has had the cat since 2008.

“I’ve never seen a cat do that,” Roger Triantatilo, Jeremy’s father, told the station. “Especially ours. It just shows how much she really has a family-oriented mind set.”

Sgt. Joe Grubbs, Bakersfield Police spokesman, said the dog will be quarantined for 10 days then euthanized.
