Beautifully Painted Trash Cans Will Encourage Beach-Goers To Clean Up Area Beaches
BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – The “Creative Cans In the Sand” initiative, recently organized by Cocoa Beach area Realtors Bobby Freeman and his wife Nikki, has a new snappy logo.
The program is now being enthusiastically endorsed and embraced by many volunteers, local artists, businesses – and the City of Cocoa Beach has expressed their intent to help out in any way possible.
“The Creative Cans In The Sand” project would like to extend a special thank you to Billy McGuire of A1A Sign Wave in Cocoa Beach for creating our logo and donating the stencils used to help spread our messages on soon-to-be- artistically painted trash cans along our beaches,” said Nikki Freeman.
McGuire has been making signs and designing logos for more than 24 years. He also serves on the Cocoa Beach Waterways & Wildlife Advisory Board which is comprised of citizens who voluntarily devote their time and talents to the management and safety of the city waterways and wildlife.
“I’m very happy to be part of anything that involves keeping our beaches clean,” said McGuire. “I live two blocks from the beach, I work two blocks from the beach, I love the beach and I don’t think anybody likes a dirty beach.”
McGuire and his A1A Sign Wave has also donated their talents to the Surfrider Foundation, National Kidney Foundation, Keep Brevard Beautiful and local schools – as well as many others.
“Anyone looking for original and creative signage, banners, logos, t-shirts and vehicle wraps should call A1A Sign Wave,” said Bobby Freeman.
Hundreds of thousands visit our beaches regularly, unfortunately some of them leave more than their footprints behind.
“Our beach is our greatest resource and we must preserve and maintain it for the benefit of all our residents and visitors,” said Ben Malik Cocoa Beach City Commissioner.
“This will be a great project for the entire community to get involved in to raise awareness to please keep our beaches clean.”
The Creative Cans In the Sand mission is to help encourage beach-goers to dispose of their trash responsibility, and with the hopes that the more noticeable artistically painted cans will result in a cleaner, more litter-free beach.
“Anything that involves kids, art and beautification I think is a great idea,” said Tony Sasso, Executive Director of Keep Brevard Beautiful.
“Keep Brevard Beautiful is definitely behind this great effort,” said Sasso.
Organizers are now working out the details and are asking the community for their ideas on the messages on the trash cans.
Some of the slogans that have been suggested so far include “Respect Our Beach,” “Footprints Only, Trash Goes Here,” and “Please Help Keep Our Beach Clean.”
