BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Former Florida Tech standout pitcher Mike Piazza has signed a contract with the Colorado Rockies.

Piazza was most recently playing independent league baseball with the Laredo Lemurs after being released by the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim organization prior to the start of the 2014 season.

Piazza appeared in 55 career games for the Panthers, and made 48 starts from 2006-09. He recorded a 20-11 overall record to go with a 4.56 career ERA. With 296 career innings pitched, Piazza struck out 228 batters including 78 for his senior season.

After finishing his career in a Panther uniform, Piazza signed as a non-drafted free agent with the Angels in 2009. He began his career in the rookie Pioneer League with the Orem Owls.

Over his five seasons in the Angels’ minor league system, Piazza spent parts of three seasons at the Double-A level with the Arkansas Travelers.

With the Travelers, Piazza was named a Texas League Pitcher of the Week in 2012, and was a Texas League Mid-Season All-Star during the 2013 season.

He finished the 2013 season for the Travelers with a 6-2 record and an ERA of 3.15.

Piazza appeared in six games for the Lemurs in 2014, and tallied a 2-1 record to go with a 3.44 ERA.

He now returns to the Texas League, as he will report to the Tulsa Drillers, the Rockies Double-A affiliate in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
