Melbourne Police Arrest Fleeing Retail Theft Suspect

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – The Melbourne Police Department arrested Kelvin J. Collins, 48, and Kyeon Rashad Roberson, 18, as a result of a report that two suspects were attempting to return stolen merchandise at the Home Depot on 5100 N. Wickham Road in Melbourne.

According to the Melbourne Police Department, at about 12:55 p.m. Sunday afternoon, the Melbourne Police Department responded to the Home Depot and took Collins into custody.

Roberson, however, fled the Home Depot in a vehicle and headed south on U.S. 1 around Sarno Road.

A traffic stop was attempted in the area of Nasa Boulevard and U.S 1.  Roberson refused to pull over and “Stop” sticks were then deployed in the area of 1100 South U.S 1. The vehicle swerved to miss the Stop sticks, and continued southbound.

Roberson eventually lost control of the vehicle in the 400 block of South U.S 1, crashing in the vacant wooded lot at 1445 South U.S 1. The driver and suspect was identified as Roberson, according to the Melbourne Police Department.

Roberson was transported to the hospital for injuries sustained in the crash. Upon his release he will be charged.

According to the Melbourne Police Department, there was a female in the vehicle that was also transported to the hospital that was not charged.

Collins has been charged with Retail Theft. Roberson will be charged with Felony Retail Theft, Aggravated Fleeing/Eluding and Driving on a revoked license. Additional charges are pending after blood alcohol results are received.
