SPACE COAST HARLEY-DAVIDSON PRESENTS JENNIFER THE CANNON LADY – THE HUMAN CANNONBALL SHOWS
Space Coast Harley-Davidson, the host of the Palm Bay Fair and home to the biggest and best inventory of new and used motorcycles in Central Florida, will present three special shows during the Palm Bay Fair.
ABOVE: And just like the Harley-Davidson motorcycles take your breadth away when you ride them, the three HUMAN CANNONBALL SHOWS will also give you the thrill and rush of true excitement.
Jennifer Smith, who stands 5 feet, 2 1/2 inches on the ground, has been a human cannonball for 18 of her 34 years. Smith professionally known as the “Cannon Lady” is shot out of the 27-foot barrel of a truck-mounted cannon by her husband Rob.
In less than a half second, she accelerates to more than 50 miles per hour, shooting 40 feet into the air and 82 feet across the Palm Bay Fair at Space Coast Harley-Davidson.
Jennifer Smith is part of the Smith Family of Human Cannonballs. It’s been the family business since 1975, when her father, Dave “Cannonball” Smith, a former junior high math teacher who abandoned trapezoids for the trapeze, quit catching other aerial artists, built a cannon and began flying wireless.
At 66, he’s still at it, traveling across the country and around the world blasting over Ferris wheels and maintaining his Guinness World’s Record for the longest human cannonball run, traveling at more than 70 miles per for a distance of more than 185 feet.
“He’s a machine,” said Jennifer. “Nobody can touch him.”
She, her brother and two sisters followed her father into a career that has taken her to 10 countries, performing in circuses, fairs, festivals and motor sport events.
She’s appeared on the Tonight and Today shows, the Discovery Channel and been featured in USA Today and National Geographic for Kids. At this point, only she and her father, and brother, are still at it, she said.
Two of her sisters have retired. She doesn’t expect to continue as long as her father has.
“I don’t want to be a 50-year-old grandma flying out of a cannon, but I feel strong now, and I feel I have several years ahead of me. I will do whatever I can to prolong my career, because I absolutely love it”.
Jennifer, the Cannon Lady, will perform a FREE show on Friday, October 17, at 5 pm at The Palm Bay Fair at Space Coast Daily Harley-Davidson. There will also be two more shows during the fair, with the Cannon Lady on Saturday, October 18 at 9:30 p.m. and on Sunday, October 19 at 4 p.m.
Admission to those two shows is free with paid admission to the Palm Bay Fair of $15, which also includes unlimited rides at the fair.
THREE PROFESSIONAL BULL RIDING SHOWS
The Professional Bull Riding Shows will take place on Friday night and Saturday night at 8 p.m. and on Sunday at 3 p.m. in the bull bash arena, on October 24, 25 and 26.
Deer Prairie Creek Bucking Bulls, which produces shows all across the southeast, will produce the exciting Pro Bull Riding shows.
Professional bull riding shows are always a crowd favorite at the Fair. The Pro Bull Riding action is presented by Space Coast Daily.com and is free with fair admission.
Over 20 of the maddest bulls in the southeast will be out for blood, as the finest bull riding cowboys attempt to ride the meanest beasts in the east.
Shows are free with gate admission to the fair. Be sure to catch this adrenaline pumping, exciting show that will leave you breathless as the cowboys take on these 2000 lb man eaters.
FREE FAMILY CIRCUS & GLOBE OF DEATH BY THE WORLD FAMOUS URIAS BRAZILIAN CIRCUS – SHOWS DAILY
The Urias Family is proud to be performing at the Palm Bay Fair, in the original Globe that was built by their great-grandfather almost 100 years ago.
The daredevil stunts are performed within the confines of a 16 foot diamater Globe.
The Original Globe of Death has been in the Urias Family since it was built in 1912 by Jose Urias; the Great Grandfather of the Urias Brothers.
Jose passed on the legacy to his son Jose II and grandson Victor, then to Victor’s sons Erwin and Melvin who continue to perform in the original Globe.
THE URIAS CIRCUS WILL PERFORM EVERY DAY AT THE FAIR – SEE BELOW FOR SHOWTIMES
Original family members and brothers, Erwin and Melvin Urias, have been “Globe Riders” since childhood, following in their father, grandfather and great-grandfather’s footsteps.
Olga Surnina joined the act in 2008 and became one of the few female riders in the history of the act.
Jodie Urias has the extraordinary job of being the daring young lady that graces the center of the Globe as the motorcycle riders zoom all around her.
It must be assumed that Erwin, Melvin, and Olga fear nothing. What else could explain how they could crawl into a 16-foot-wide mesh-metal globe and chase each other with dirtbikes at speeds up to 60 mile per hour?
The Sphere of Fear was originally constructed with heavy steel strapping and hand pounded steel rivets to hold the steel straps together and give the Sphere its crisscrossed metal weaved appearance.
The Urias Family is the first Sphere of Fear act to feature 3 motorcycles, and the first to feature three motorcycles and a Lady standing in the center.
Performing in a Split Globe of Death
The Urias Daredevils defied all odds by riding their motorcycles in a Split Globe of Steel.
The picture to the right is from 1960 and shows Victor Urias riding atop the massive 15 foot gap in the splitting globe maintaining a speed of 50 miles per hour.
Victor performed this act with his brother Geraldo. They were riding English motorcycles; Villiers which had engines built by Rolls Royce. This act toured throughout South America.
The split Globe of Death and the roar of the Urias motorcycles thrilled audiences everywhere the Urias Troup performed.
Victor Urias introduced his wife, Kathia Urias, to the audiences that came to watch the Urias Family Daredevils perform in the Globe of Death.
In fact, the Urias Globe of Death was the first globe to add a lady standing in the center as the motorcycles raced around her in the Globe of Death.
Victor Urias was the first Globe of Death ever to feature a female rider in the early 1960’s. In the 70’s the Urias Family was the only globe ever to feature 2 female riders!
Victor Urias and Douglas McValley careened around the metal mesh globe at breakneck speed in the 110th edition of Ringling Bros. and Barnum and Bailey Circus. The Urias Family Globe of Death toured with Ringling Bros and Barnum and Bailey Circus 1978-1986, 1999-2000, 2008-2009.
The Urias Family is the first Globe of Death act to feature 3 motorcycles, and the first to feature 3 motorcycles and a Lady standing in the center.

Erwin Urias – Fourth Generation Globe Rider
From the time Erwin was old enough to start walking, his father would get on a motorcycle, strap Erwin on with him and give him rides around the inside of the Globe of Death, which was only the beginning of Erwin’s love for thrills.
Erwin first began riding his own motorcycles at the age of 2. His first bike was a “Lil Chief” 50cc Indian motorcycle.
By the time Erwin reached 5 years of age, he was already practicing the act and riding his own motorcycle in the Globe of Death.
Featured Performer in the Globe of Steel
Erwin also pursued other interests in the circus including; juggling, trampoline, acrobatics, tumbling, flying trapeze and aerial cradle, but his true passion was mastering and performing in the Globe of Death.
By the age of 14 Erwin was a featured performer in the Globe of Steel along with his parents on Ringling Brothers and Barnum and Bailey Circus. Erwin is considered one of the top motorcyclists in the world that perform in the Globe of Death. Today Erwin continues to amaze audiences in the Globe of Steel performing with his Brother Melvin, his wife Jodie and troupe member Olga Surnina.
Melvin Urias – Fourth Generation Urias Daredevil
Melvin Urias began following in his father’s footsteps at the age of 8 when he took an interest in riding a motorcycle in the Globe of Death.
His first motorcycle was a Yamaha PW 50. He quickly mastered the small bike and moves up to a larger motorcycle; the Yamaha 80.
Melvin’s first performance was at the age of 12 when the Globe of Steel was performing at the Corona Bros. International Circus.
Expert Globe of Death Motorcyclist
Melvin and his brother Erwin would spend their free time practicing new maneuvers to show their father so they could continue to improve their performances and take the act to the next level.
Today, Melvin is considered one of the top motorcyclists in the world that perform in the Globe of Death.
Jodie Urias – First Generation Circus Performer
Jodie, unlike the rest of the Urias daredevils, did not come from an entertainment background. She is a first generation circus performer.
She got her start at the age of 19 when she left home for a “summer job” with Carson and Barnes Circus.
She practiced an aerial act called the Spanish web and auditioned for the show just 2 weeks after she began training.
She had her first performance the day after the audition. By the end of the summer, Jodie had been offered a contract to perform with the circus for a full season.
She performed with a partner in an act called the “Aerial Cradle” and she worked in the shows productions; riding elephants and the Spanish web.
She also had her very own solo act on the Single Trapeze.
Performing with the Sphere of Fear
Jodie met the Urias Family while performing on the George Carden Circus. Years later, Jodie married troupe member Erwin Urias. Jodie began performing in the Globe act when Kathia (Erwin’s mother) had to leave during their tour on a family emergency.
Since then, Jodie has been an integral part of the act, as she has the unique job of being the daring woman that stands in the center of the Globe as 3 motorcycles zoom around her.
Multi-Talented Solo Artist
Jodie also performs as a solo artist on the trapeze, aerial chiffons and the lira (aerial hoop) or in a combined aerial display with Olga Surnina.
Jodie teaches hoop fitness and hoop dance classes and has hoop dance performances. To learn more about classes, hoops and gear you can visit her website at www.HoopFitUSA.com
Olga Surnina – Accomplished Gymnast
Olga has a background in Sport Gymnastics. She began her training at the age of 5 at a sport school in Kazakhstan. Her talent was quickly recognized by her trainers to be unique. She was chosen to progress her skills for gymnastic competitions. She competed as a solo gymnast and in a group; where she met and trained with 5 other girls for the next 12 years.
The girls from her gymnastic troupe formed a circus act together and toured on some of Europe’s finest circuses before coming to the United States for the first time in 2003, where she was performing at the George Carden Circus in an aerial act called the Lira and a jump rope gymnastic act with the same girls she trained with in sport school. This is when she met the Urias family for the first time.
Female Globe of Death Performer
Olga began practicing with the Urias family in the Globe in 2005. She trained for 2 years before performing with the Urias troupe. She is one of the few female globe riders in the world and has become and accomplished motorcyclist.
Olga also performs her own unique hand balancing act as a solo artist. She also performs on the aerial chiffons and the lira as a solo act or in a combined display with Jodie Urias.
