Fatal Accident Closes Section Of US 1 In Cocoa

UPDATE:  The victim of this morning’s traffic crash has been identified at 66 year old Arthur Churchill of Titusville.  According to Cocoa Police Department’s Public Information Officer, Barbara Matthews, investigators said Churchill was on a motorcycle heading south on US 1 in Cocoa,  just south of Michigan Ave.  when he struck an object in the road.  It appears he was thrown from his motorcycle and then struck by other vehicles also traveling southbound.  The investigation is continuing and additional information will be released as the investigation continues.

COCOA, FLORIDA — A fatal accident closed all lanes north of Michigan Ave and south of SR 528 in Cocoa.

Lanes are expected to be closed for several hours. Below is a statement from Cocoa Police Department’s Public Information Officer, Barbara Matthews:

At approximately 6:00 a.m. this morning, there was a traffic crash on US 1, which resulted in a death. At this time, and for at least the next two hours, US 1 will be closed from SR 528 to Michigan Ave. Drivers can exit SR 528 at US 1 but can go north, only. Other traffic in the area is being diverted while this traffic scene is worked.”
