Local Teen Dies While Riding Skateboard Towed By Car

FHP-TRAFFIC-FATALITY-180MERRITT ISLAND, FLORIDA — A teenage female from Satellite Beach was killed while she was riding on a skateboard towed behind a car on Merritt Island.  

According to Florida Highway Patrol’s public information officer Kim Montes, the teenager fell from a skateboard that was being towed by a Toyota Celica driven by Zachary Byrnes, 19 of Rockledge. The accident occurred at the intersection of Tropical Trail and Tropical Island Lane. The teen was initially taken to Holmes Regional Medical Center, then transferred to Arnold Palmer Children’s Hospital, where she eventually died on Oct. 21.

This crash remains under investigation.
