According to Palm Bay Public Information Officer Yvonne Martinez, Josiah Hadley, 21 of Palm Bay was arrested Wednesday following a thorough investigation into the death of Griselle Martinez, 22, resulting from a domestic violence incident that occurred on Saturday.

On October 4, Hadley was home with Martinez in an apartment they shared at 3335 Wedgewood Dr.  The couple had an “on and off” relationship over the course of the last year.

According to Martinez, the couple’s heated argument over living arrangements led to a physical altercation. Hadley alleges he was forced to defend himself , however a roommate who witnessed the fight said Hadley was beating Martinez while she lay motionless on the floor.  The witness intervened and they both took Martinez to the hospital.  Trauma doctors immediately diagnosed Martinez with signs of brain hemorrhage.

Doctors pronounced her deceased at 2:33 p.m. on Oct. 6.

“He’s hurt. He’s very sorry for what happened, but it happened and now he’s got to accept responsibility,” said Detective Ken Shedrick.  “It’s a tragedy. This is a bad case of domestic violence and I think it could have been avoided.  There was every opportunity for him to leave and he didn’t.”

Hadley is being booked into the Brevard County Jail and is expected to face a judge regarding the charge and issues relating to bail.  The investigation is ongoing and the State Attorney’s Office will make the final decision regarding the criminal charges.
