BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Previously recognized by the Sunshine State Conference for their remarkable play this season, four Florida Tech men’s soccer players added Daktronics All-South Region honors to their names.
Forward Adin Kavara nabbed first-team honors, while Drake Hillman, Sam Sawyer and Josh Thomaswere each selected as second-team members.
In his sophomore campaign, Kavara was an offensive dynamo on a Panther squad that averaged just shy of two goals per game this season. The native of Oslo, Norway capped off the season with 12 goals and five assists.
His 29 total points were good enough for second place in the Sunshine State Conference. Kavara recorded five game-winners and also registered a hat-trick against Saint Thomas on Sept. 4.
One of five seniors on this year’s club, Hillman proved to be a reliable scoring threat in 2014. He tied for sixth in the conference in both points per game and goals scored. In addition to his six goals, Hillman added three assists on the season.
The all-south region selection is the second of Hillman’s career.
An essential member of the Panther backline, Sawyer directed a defense that limited SSC opponents to nine goals in eight matches, ranking second in the conference. The sophomore from Bideford, England logged 841 minutes in a season cut short due to injury.
Registering 14 starts as a freshman, Thomas added balance to the Panther lineup all year long. The midfielder tallied six goals and assists, placing him in the top-six in the conference for both categories. Throughout the Panthers’ impressive SSC Tournament run, Thomas notched a goal in each of the three matches.
Picked in the preseason to finish sixth, Florida Tech finished the SSC regular season in a tie for second and was runner-up to Lynn in the conference tournament.
