Hit and Run Pedestrian Dies, Investigation Continues

BREVARD COUNTY • COCOA, FLORIDA – The pedestrian that was struck and critically injured on Tuesday at about 6:55 p.m. has been idenifie as Ryaunte Blount, 22, of Cocoa.

Blount died Wednesday morning at Holmes Regional Medical Center, according to Sergeant Kim Montes, Public Affairs Officer of the Florida Highway Patrol.

Blount was hit by a 2004 Ford Mustang that was traveling eastbound on School Street in Cocoa, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The Mustang struck the pedestrian and then continued eastbound, leaving the scene without stopping and was later found abandoned on Bay Street.

FHP Troopers have interviewed the owner of the Mustang, 22-year old Taylor Michael Edwards, who remains a person of interest, according to FHP.

The pedestrian has not been identified by authorities at this time. This incident remains under investigation and charges are pending.
