Police ID Victim In Melbourne Stabbing Homicide

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Investigators have identified Reginald Garoute as the victim of a fatal stabbing that occurred early this morning in downtown Melbourne, according to the Melbourne Police Department.
Garoute was found in a field just west of U.S. 1 on New Haven Avenue at 2:15 a.m. He had suffered stab wounds to his upper body and was pronounced dead 45 minutes later at a local hospital.
At this time, investigators believe Garoute was stabbed at the 900 block of East New Haven Avenue. It appears he then made his way east on foot to the field in which he was found.
Investigators also believe that there may be witnesses to the crime since the stabbing happened around the time downtown bars and restaurants were closing.

The dead man’s identity is currently being withheld pending notification of next of kin and further investigation.
