BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA — After posting impressive performances over the past week, women’s basketball forward Jasmire Brown and men’s basketball guard Chris Carter have been named Florida Tech’s Panther Student-Athletes of the Week.

Fresh off garnering Sunshine State Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week laurels, Brown earns athlete of the week recognition after averaging 21.3 points and five rebounds over the Panthers’ three wins this past week.

The Brooksville, Florida native shot 64.7 percent from the floor and 58.8 percent from three to lead FIT to a 10-0 start to the season, second-best in school-history. Brown was named to the CarMax Holiday Tournament All-Tournament Team after propelling the Panthers to a pair of victories.

Carter helped the FIT men go 2-1 over the course of the week. He poured in 19 points and tallied five assists as the Panthers defeated Flagler 87-81 to open the week. Carter then chipped in 11 points and five rebounds in FIT’s dramatic 86-85 victory over Livingstone.

The Panthers fell 85-66 to Claflin the next night but not for Carter’s efforts. The senior registered a season-high 27 points, grabbed six boards and tossed five assists in the loss. Carters’ 27 points are the second-most scored by a Panther this season.

The Panther women wrapped up 2014 against Shaw at the CarMax Holiday Tournament and will look to open 2015 on a high note as FIT returns to SSC action at Saint Leo on Jan. 3. The FIT men will compete one final time in 2014, taking on Division I foe Stetson in an exhibition game in DeLand, Florida on Jan. 30. The game will be streamed worldwide on ESPN3 and the WatchESPN app.
