Orlando is the ‘Soccer Capital of the South'
ORLANDO – Orlando City Soccer Club announced today that it has sold 10,000 season tickets for the inaugural 2015 Major League Soccer (MLS) campaign.
“We’re delighted to have surpassed 10,000 season tickets,” said Orlando City Founder and President Phil Rawlins.
Additionally, 13-time Major League Baseball (MLB) All-Star Ken Griffey Jr. was recognized as the 10,000th Central Florida resident to purchase season tickets.
Griffey Jr. – a lifelong sports fan – has been a resident of Central Florida for nearly 20 years.
“I’m very excited to be a season ticket member for Orlando City,” said Griffey Jr.
“I’ve played professional baseball in many cities where soccer is a big success, and the buzz here for Orlando City is unlike anything I’ve ever seen. My family and I are anticipating the arrival of Major League Soccer in Central Florida.”
“To have this many season tickets sold with over a month before our first match is a true credit to our fans, and displays why Orlando is the ‘Soccer Capital of the South.’
We’re also very pleased to welcome Ken Griffey Jr. to the Orlando City family.
He’s been an influential sports figure for several decades, and we’re thrilled that he’s decided to become a supporter of Orlando City and MLS.”
