BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Eastern Florida’s men’s basketball team raced to a 43-20 halftime lead and never looked back in defeating Indian River State College 83-56 on Wednesday in Fort Pierce.

The victory in the opening game of Eastern Florida’s defense of its two straight FCSAA Southern Conference championships moved the Titans overall record to 18-1 and was their 14th straight this season.

Indian River fell to 9-7 overall and 0-1 in conference.

Barham scored 15 points on five three-pointers. Sophomore Demetrius McReynolds scored 17 points including three three-pointers.

“We faced some adversity tonight and I’m really proud of how our guys responded,” said Eastern Florida head coach Jeremy Shulman.

“A lot of guys really stepped up including (freshman) Marcus Barham. It was a great team effort against a very good Indian River team. Really proud of my guys for a tough, hard-nosed win.”

Freshman Djordje Beronja added 16 points and sophomore Kyle Meyer 14 including two three-pointers. Payton Hulsey scored 12.

Next up for Eastern Florida is its conference home opener on Jan. 14 against Palm Beach State College.
