Titusville Police Officer Identified In Shooting of Suspect

BREVARD COUNTY • TITUSVILLE, FLORIDA – The Titusville Police Department has released the identity of the officer involved in the shooting Tuesday night in Cumberland Farms parking lot at 3505 S. Hopkins Avenue.

According to Commander Todd Hutchinson of the Titusville Police Department, five year veteran Officer Jason Hanson, 38, has been placed on paid administrative leave pending the completion of an independent investigation by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.

The administrative leave is routine for an officer-involved shooting.

The Brevard County Sheriff’s Office is handling the existing arrest warrant on the suspect who was shot, Marques R. Albert, 22, of Titusville. Albert was flown by helicopter to the hospital, and his injury does not appear to be life threatening, according to police.

Albert is facing charges from the Titusville Police Department based on last night’s incident and an existing warrant.

Titusville Officer Shoots Suspect Who Rammed Police Car

BREVARD COUNTY • TITUSVILLE, FLORIDA – A suspect wanted in connection with an earlier shooting was shot by a Titusville police officer when he violently resisted arrest in a convenience store parking lot at about 1 a.m. on Wednesday, according to Commander Todd Hutchinson of the Titusville Police Department.

In the early morning hours of Wednesday, the Titusville police responded to assist members of the GAMEOVER task force, a countywide, violent felon apprehension unit.

The unit had spotted Marques R. Albert, 22, of Titusville, who had an active warrant related to a shooting in Titusville on Jan. 8 in which a man was shot in the lower back.

As agents from the task force and a Titusville police officer moved in on the suspect in the parking lot of Cumberland Farms, located at 3505 S. Hopkins Avenue, Albert violently rammed police vehicles with his car, according to police.

A Titusville police officer discharged his firearm and the suspect was shot at least one time.

According to the Titusville police, a Ford Crown Victoria patrol car was heavily damaged during the incident.

Albert was flown by helicopter to the hospital, and his injury does not appear to be life threatening, according to police.

A female passenger in Albert’s vehicle was transported to the hospital with minor injuries related to the impact of Albert ramming police vehicles.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) is handling the officer-involved shooting and the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office is handling the Crime Scene Investigation.

A Titusville Police internal investigation will parallel the FDLE investigation.

The name of the officer involved, who has been with the Titusville Police Department since 2010, will be released by authorities later today.
