MyFWC.com – So many sea turtles were rescued from dangerously cold New England waters over the last few months that some had to be flown to rehabilitation facilities here in Florida.
The U.S. Coast Guard and other generous partners came to the rescue. They airlifted the cold-stunned very important Passengers – mostly endangered Kemp’s Ridley turtles – on three special flights to Florida.
Then, the V.I.P. patients were rushed to our coastal partners across the state for rehabilitation. This ending is happy: Earlier this week, healthy sea turtles were released in the beautiful blue waters off St. George Island.
Thanks to the sea turtle partners: Gulf World Marine Park in Panama City Beach, Disney’s Living Seas, The Florida Aquarium in Tampa, The Miami Seaquarium, The Turtle Hospital in Marathon, SeaWorld of Florida, Gumbo Limbo Nature Center in Boca Raton and Loggerhead Marinelife Center.
