ranking is first for program since 2009
BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Eastern Florida’s golf team is ranked No. 1 nationally in the new Golfstat.com poll for NJCAA Division I men’s teams.
The top ranking is the first for the program since 2009.
The Titans have won their two most recent tournaments. They captured the Florida Tech Panther Invitational, in which they were the only NJCAA team competing against NCAA and NAIA squads, and the Darton Spring Invitational, which was comprised of just NJCAA teams.
“Rankings can be a reward for good play or an eye opener for the need to improve,” said Eastern Florida head coach Jamie Howell.
“While the team was excited to hear the news our first response is this ranking is an end result of a process and a lot of hard work coming to fruition. Now is not the time to rest on rankings but continue to do what we have been doing all year long. Just keep getting a little better in our preparation for the next event on our schedule.
“The corollary is ‘don’t get caught watching the paint dry (running the picket fence).”
The next event for the Titans is a one-day match on Monday against NCAA Division I St. Peter’s University at the Rockledge Country Club.
Their next tournament is March 16-17 at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach.
