EFSC BASEBALL Rallies for Fifth Straight Victory

ABOVE VIDEO: The Eastern Florida State College Titans are a member of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) which has more than 525 member schools and are also part of the Florida College System Activities Association (FCSAA) which is the governing body for state college athletics in Florida.

DAVIE, FLORIDA – Eastern Florida’s baseball team won its fifth straight game on Friday, its fourth straight in the FCSAA Southern Conference, rallying to defeat Broward College 6-5 in Davie.

EFSC-LOGO-180Eastern Florida improved to 15-13 overall and 6-5 in the conference, injecting itself into the race for either a top-two finish to automatically qualify for the NJCAA Region 8/FCSAA Tournament or a third-place finish and a play-in game.

Broward fell to 12-15 and 5-4. The teams meet again at 1 p.m. Saturday in Davie.

Right-hander Dulvis Borjas was the winning pitcher thanks in part to Manuel Rodriguez’s two-run game-winning hit with two outs in the eighth inning.

“We were down four early,” said Eastern Florida head coach Jeff Tam.

“The kids battled hard and made it happen.

“What a job.”

Eastern Florida out hit Broward 9-7 and committed three errors to five for the hosts.

Softball Sweeps Doubleheader to Snap Losing Streak

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Eastern Florida’s softball team regained its winning ways on Friday sweeping a doubleheader at Chain of Lakes Park in Titusville.

The Titans improved to 8-12, breaking a four-game losing streak.

They defeated Parkland College of Illinois 11-2 in the first game and Chesapeake College of Maryland 8-0 in the second game.

Kayla Byers was the winning pitcher in the first game getting offensive support from Sarah Hart who went 2-for-4 with runs batted in and Shelby Nazworth who went 2-for-4 with a double.

Dajia Jones picked up the victory in the second game. Nazworth went 1-for-3 with a home run, Hannah Roberts 2-for-2 with a double and Taylor Zitiello 2-for-3 with three runs batted in.

Next up for the Titans is a FCSAA Southern Conference doubleheader at Broward College in Davie beginning at noon on Sunday.

Both teams are seeking their first conference victory.

Top-Ranked Golf Team Plays Tournament, One-Day Match on Monday

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Eastern Florida’s nationally top-ranked golf team has added a one-day match to its schedule.

Head coach Jamie Howell will send five players against NCAA Division III Guilford College of North Carolina at 2 p.m.Monday at the Rockledge Country Club while five others will be competing in the two-day, 54-hole Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University Eagle Invitational in Daytona Beach.

Playing at Embry-Riddle will be Dalton Bartlett, Lorenzo Bolivar, Alex Blue, Corey Herman and either Michael Keymont or Aaron Giles.

Playing against Guilford will be Kerry Sweeney, Mickey DeMorat, Drew Cooke, Brad Gray and either Keymont or Giles.

“I am taking a younger team to Embry Riddle to get some extra tournament rounds for all as well as not having any of our team members miss too much class,” said Eastern Florida head coach Jamie Howell.

Eastern Florida has had a good spring, winning consecutive tournaments at Florida Tech and Darton State College in Georgia, placing second and sixth in its season-opening Titan Winter Invitational and winning a one-day match against NCAA Division I St. Peter’s College.

The Titans close their spring schedule with the March 30–31 Barry Buccaneer Invitational in Miami, where it will be the only NJCAA team competing, and the April 27–28 NJCAA District 4 Championship in Alexander City, Alabama, the final stop before the May 10-15 NJCAA Division I Men’s Golf Championship in Newton, Kansas.

Eastern Florida is seeking its 13th consecutive trip to the national tournament.
