Five Locals Arrested In Cocoa Beach Shooting

BREVARD COUNTY • COCOA BEACH, FLORIDA – Five local suspects were arrested Tuesday night after officers with the Cocoa Beach Police Department and Brevard County Sheriff’s Office responded to the sound of shots fired in the vicinity of 2 S. Atlantic Avenue.
According to the police, the motive for the shooting has yet to be determined.
No one was injured in the incident that occurred near the former Bernard Surf’s restaurant, but police discovered a vehicle with several bullet holes, which lead officers to search the currently vacant Cocoa Beach landmark building.
With assistance of a Brevard County Sheriff’s Office K9 unit, officers located five suspects concealing themselves within the building, as well as a handgun.

Police arrested Matthew VanSyckle, 23, of Cocoa Beach who was charged with Armed Burglary, Grand Theft, Criminal Mischief, Discharging a Firearm in Public, and Resisting Officer without Violence.
Also arrested was Vincent Oneil-Natal, 20, from Merritt Island; Logan Hansen, 18, from Cocoa Beach; Jordan Grueter, 18, from Cocoa Beach; and Katlin Peacock, 18, from Merritt Island. All four suspects were taken into custody and charged with Burglary and Resisting Officer without Violence.
