Florida Tech’s Locks Down On Lynn 2-0, Third Straight Win
By Florida Tech Athletic Communications // March 20, 2015
BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Florida Tech softball (24-9, 4-3 SSC) opened its series with the Fighting Knights of Lynn (13-13, 3-4 SSC) on Friday afternoon with a 2-0 victory at Lynn Softball Field.
The Panthers grasped an early lead in the top of the first with a nice two-out rally.
Nicole Miller sent a shot right back from where it came for a single. A pair of bloop singles to right field by Taylor Peterson and Nicole Shinsky provided ample opportunity for Miller to come home and give FIT the 1-0 advantage.
FIT added an insurance run in the second. Ashley Montion was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning and was advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Jessica Callahan.
Elizabeth Eby reached on an error on a hard hit ball to third, allowing Montion to move to third.
The Upland, California native scored when Brigit Godfrey grounded out to second.
The two runs were plenty for Rachel Pence, who had all of her stuff working. The Panther workhorse allowed a triple to center field to the first batter she saw and from there proceeded to bewilder the Fighting Knights.
Pence registered her third complete game shutout of the season, striking out nine batters along the way.
The Panthers and Fighting Knights will do battle once again tomorrow in a doubleheader. The pair of games are slated for 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. ET.
