Worker Electrocuted, Killed On South Tropical Trail

BREVARD COUNTY • MERRITT ISLAND, FLORIDA – A worker was killed Tuesday at about 2:45 p.m. while replacing power poles.

The incident occurred in the 2000 block of South Tropical Trail in Merritt Island as the victim, who was working in a high-lift bucket truck, was electrocuted and pronounced dead at the scene, according to Brevard County Fire Rescue.

Authorities have not identified the victim pending notification of next of kin.

Sheriff’s Office Deputies and Investigators are responding to the report of an accidental occupational injury and traffic is affected in this area, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

South Tropical Trail is shut down in both directions. Alternate routes should be used to avoid extended delays (Plantation road to the North, and Two Oaks Boulevard to the South).

According to the Sheriff’s Department, the power to this grid of residents will be affected about another hour.
