Deler, Gomez Share Eastern Florida Student-Athlete Honors

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Baseball players Derek Deler and Brandon Gomez are the Eastern Florida State College Student-Athletes of the Week for the week ending April 19.
Deler, a sophomore shortstop and designated hitter from Orlando and Orangewood Christian and Florida International University, collected three hits and three runs batted in as Eastern Florida defeated FCSAA Southern Conference foe Miami Dade 6-5 in 11 innings on Friday.
Gomez, a sophomore outfielder from Miami Lakes, Monsignor Pace High and Florida International, hit the game-winning home run in the Titans victory over Miami Dade.
The home run was Gomez’s team-leading seventh of the season.
The Titans are embroiled in a tight race to make the postseason.
Eastern Florida’s hopes of qualifying for the NJCAA Region 8/FCSAA Tournament now hinge on its regular-season finale two-game series with Palm Beach State this week.
The teams play Tuesday at 5 p.m. at Bruce Bochy Field on the Melbourne campus in a game that will be telecast live on WEFS-TV and streamed at www.njcaatv.com/efsc
They then play Wednesday at 5 p.m. in Lake Worth in a home game for Palm Beach.
