BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA — Florida Institute of Technology artist in residence Paul Anquez is recording an album this week at WFIT’s recording studio.
Anquez, a pianist and composer from the Paris Conservatory, will be joined in the university radio station’s studio by Sweden- and Paris-based singer and improviser Isabel Sörling.
Anquez is the second Florida Tech artist in residence to record an album on campus. Christian Tamburr recorded his most recent album, “Voyage,” at the WFIT performance studio last year.

At 7 p.m.Thursday, April 2, Anquez and Sörling will give a free public concert at Florida Tech’s outdoor Panthereum to celebrate the conclusion of their recording.
Guests will be invited to pre-order the CD at a discounted price. It will then be released at Anquez’s April 24 concert, where he will conduct his own arrangements of folk songs performed by Florida Tech student ensembles.
It is all part of a very busy start to his residency, noted Kevin Burke, Florida Tech’s director of music programs.

“He has been a busy artist in residence the past two months, performing at Gleason, work-shopping with FIT students, teaching private lessons, visiting Brevard Public Schools and performing at venues from Melbourne to Cocoa Beach to Vero Beach,” Burke said.
An accomplished jazz pianist, composer and conductor, Anquez began his musical instruction with the Calais Conservatoire, where he studied classical piano, jazz, electro-acoustic music and voice.
He then pursued his studies at the Musicology Department of the Sorbonne University and at the Paris Conservatory.
At the latter, he was selected for the European Jazz Master, which he is currently finishing.
During these two years, he spent semesters at the Rhythmic Music Conservatorium in Copenhagen and the Jazz Institute Berlin.
